Great device for rides – short or long. Just can’t get lost.
I’ve had the device for about a year and use it every time I go biking. The battery life is fantastic lasting many days without recharge (as opposed to my phone which runs out after 3 hours of GPS use.) Works by itself on the road. I use a GPS subscription app to map out my destinations, download to device and go. There’s a means to do this on the road with the phone. Display is easy to read even in bright sunlight. Can provide biking stats if you want to track them. Certain displays are customizable; you tube videos have ideas on how to display the info most important to you, speed, way points, distance traveled, distance to next way point, etc. Device attaches onto the handlebars with a mount mechanism that’s sold separately. I do find myself readjusting the mount when on bumpy roads. I haven’t used the feature but if there are others who have the devices, you can use them together for group rides. Long distance rides will publish may compatible/downloadable routes. Have received several free updates to the device. Pairs with my electric bike and iphone. Has touch screen and some buttons. Easy to use.Wouldn’t go on a ride without this device.

Worth Every Mile: Bright, Reliable, and Effortlessly Smart
I’ve been using the Garmin Edge 1040 for about three weeks now, and honestly, it’s been a joy to ride with. The first thing I noticed was the big, bright screen—it’s perfectly clear in full sun, shade, and even when I’m wearing sunglasses. That might sound like a small thing, but on long rides, it makes a huge difference in comfort and focus. The navigation is excellent. It doesn’t just tell you when to turn—it actually gives proactive directions, and I love that the cues show up even when I’m not on the main map screen. It’s one of those smart design touches that make it feel like Garmin really understands cyclists.Setup was straightforward. It paired with the Garmin Connect app and my Fenix 7 watch almost instantly, so I could use my heart rate data without any extra steps. Syncing with Strava routes over Wi-Fi worked flawlessly, too—no cables or manual transfers needed. The auto-pause feature is super responsive (no annoying delays at stoplights), and the battery life has been outstanding. After several long rides, I still haven’t come close to draining it in a single day.I haven’t compared it directly to other Edge models, but for the $400 sale price, I definitely feel like I got my money’s worth. It’s reliable, smart, and everything just works the way it should—which is all I really want from a bike computer.Highly recommend if you want a top-tier GPS unit that’s easy to live with and packed with thoughtful features.

An incredible upgrade from my last bike computer!
I have not had it very long, but, so far, the Garmin Edge 1040 is everything I was hoping for and more! It has all the capabilities I need and then some.I replaced my Garmin Edge Explore (which I was pretty satisfied with) with the Edge 1040 primarily because I got a new bike with a Di2 groupset and wanted access to battery status, gears, and shifting mode – not supported by my Edge Explore. I got all that plus an excellent, easy to view display that is highly customizable and shows the data I want. In addition, battery life is outstanding, connectivity is fantastic, and this thing is so much faster than the Edge Explore – it takes just seconds to upload data to Garmin Connect and Stava at the end of my rides! Absolutely no complaints – a fantastic bike computer!

Great product! But requires a tutor.
I put off buying one for a long time and tried out several cheap ones. They were OK but broke quickly and had weird issues. The 1040 has WAY more features than you can learn quickly. I found a few YT videos on the features important to me.The MTB features are cool. Love all the feedback and metrics. Needs work are the UI — it’s not very intuitive so you do have to spend some time to learn it.Overall. Love it. Should have bought one years ago.

The 1040 is great for Xert users
I really did not want to buy another biking computer and had been using the Edge 520 for many years but it would not pick up power meter readings from both of my PowerTap pedals AND it was not compatible with Xert’s Magic Buckets, so I made the switch and bought the 1040. Glad I did! First of all, I love that the 1040 supports readings for both power meter pedals, and it works flawlessly with Xert including Magic Buckets. The screen is certainly easier to read then my 520, and I find setup and use is easier as well once you get over the initial learning curve. Battery life is solid – I would have gone with the solar version but I don’t do rides that require anything near the multi-day limit of this little beauty. Very happy with the purchase

Solid product
Huge upgrade from my previous 1030 edge! Better graphics, much friendlier user interface and connections with other devices and a slimmer more compact case!

Slim profile. Large touchscreen. Great battery life.
I really like this computer. It has a slim profile and the large screen means I can easily read 10 fields while riding without the need for my reading glasses. Only complaint is that it seems to hallucinate some climbs (when you have ClimbPro enabled). Not sure why it does this. Just today, I was descending on a section of the trail, when it showed a climb starting and told me to “Climb!” while I was descending. Weird. Other than those hallucinations, I love the computer. Easy to pair with sensors and works well with my Garmin Varia RCT 715 radar. Great battery life. On sale for $400, it was a great value. The touch screen works well and it’s loaded with features. Very easy to get up and running, though it took some getting used to the various settings buried in a the various pages. Online searches quickly resolved any questions, though.

Excellent Cycling Computer
The Garmin 1040 is an awesome cycling computer. It does everything and exceeds my expectations for a cycling computer. The battery life is exceptional and the screen size is wonderful for older eyes.
