Very accurate heart rate monitor
I bought this monitor to replace an old Nike SMA007 strap monitor. I decided to try it even not knowing if the ANT+/Bluetooth technology was compatible with the old Nike Triax C8. When I tested it, the HRM-Dual sensor was not compatible with the old C8. I tried it with another old watch that I got in a raffle few years ago, a Garmin Forerunner 35. The HRM-Dual is fully compatible with this Garmin watch. The HRM-Dual is not directly compatible with the Garmin Connect App in iPhone via Bluetooth. However, the sensor can be seen and updated by Garmin Express in Windows PC through the Forerunner watch. The HRM-Dual is directly compatible with the Wahoo App and with the Polar Beat App in the iPhone via Bluetooth. The two Apps that I tested with. It is probably compatible with many other workout iPhone Apps. This morning, I tested the accuracy of the HRM-Dual by comparing it against a three electrodes medical EKG heart monitor that I wear during my cardiac rehab sessions. During my full 40 minutes routing of treadmill (20) and elliptical (20), the HRM-Dual was off by +0/-1 BPM than the medical EKG heart monitor. The medical heart monitor records the EKG wave form and heart rate (BPM) during the complete session. The monitor is easy to install and it is functional after it has been strapped in the chest. The strap needs to be wetted before is put on. The sensor does not have a light or visual indication of being operational. But the watch detected it as soon as I enter the working option in the watch. At the same time, the sensor was connected to my iPhone running the Wahoo App after being paired via Bluetooth within the App. Polar Beat App also detected the sensor thought the iPhone Bluetooth. In summary, I am very happy with this monitor even though, I believe, it has been discontinued by Garmin.

Great battery life, comfortable, connects easily
Connects easily, comfortable, works great. Long battery life. Have used ~1hr per week for over a year without replacing the battery.Works seamlessly with the Polar Beat app but I think there are various ones it’ll work with.

Great HRM – Beware compatibility with Apple Health & no Garmin App support
Male, 5’9″ 190 lbs 44″ hairy chest. I only wear it running – an average of 4-6 hours per week.Positives – comfortable! I perspire a good bit and it holds up. A snug but not uncomfortable fit works great. I don’t notice it, which is a big plus.Negatives – Garmin IOS app is not designed to recognize it -I mean come on its your product! The device doesn’t show up in the selection list. Apple Health rarely picks up the signal – this is a big disappointment as the NikeRunClub only gets HR data through Apple Health. Another third party app (Heart Graph) works great with it – so I don’t have HR data integrated with my other NRC data.Overall a good value priced HRM. YMMV & please correct me if I missed something.

Junk unit. would never buy again.
I ended up buying this unit to start with. TLDR this unit ended up getting replaced with the Polar H10 instead. That is a much better unit compared to the Garmin. Here is a comparison between the two units if you aren’t sure which to buy.The strap.I’m a big boy at 275 pounds so I bought the larger strap to go with the unit. The garmin strap was trash. Too thin and soft and so it just rolled up with movement. The Polar strap is a little firmer though so it can better stay flat without rolling up. This is huge when it comes to comfort as when the strap rolls up it will dig into your skin a little more. The Polar strap I could probably wear all day long without issue. The unit itself – Big win for Polar. The Garmin unit at first wouldn’t detect my heart rate. Tried all the tricks from submerging it in water, licking the pads, getting all sweaty and then trying it. Nothing. Only way I was able to get it to work was buying conductive gel and using that on the pads. Next problem was once I started working out I had about 20-30 minutes before it quit working. What sucks is you wouldn’t know it though as it doesn’t display 0. Instead, it just keeps displaying the same heart rate that it was able to detect. This kind of sucks though as your heart rate could be very different, but you would never know.what makes it even worse is once the unit quits working, that’s it for the next couple hours. It WILL NOT WORK no matter what you do. Dry the strap out, clean the strap and pads, apply more gel, apply less gel, dunk the strap, dry it out again. NOTHING!Had this happen during Full Frontal 4DP test by The Sufferfest by Wahoo. Figured it was just a fluke and I’ll try again. Once again half way through the test it just quits and will not work for the next couple hours. That’s a pretty crappy deal to get half way through that test and then just have the heart rate quit working invalidating the whole test.Figured ok maybe it’s just too much. maybe I’m sweating too much, maybe my heart rate is going wonky. Who knows. Lets just do a normal training run instead that’s hopefully not quite as intensive. Again 20-30 minutes in it would just quit. This happened EVERY SINGLE TIME for any type of ride I did. This is kind of worthless. You get through any warm up, and just starting on the actual workout at which point the unit bricks itself and won’t work for the next couple hours. The Polar unit on the other hand worked right from the start. I have never used the conductive gel with unit. Hell I don’t even have to wet the strap down or anything. I just put it on and start riding.Don’t think I have had it actually drop out during an exercise. I have tested it though to see what would happen if it does quit detecting my heart rate by lifting up one side of the pads of my chest. This is another huge win in that if it does quit detecting your heart rate this will show 0. Very much unlike the garmin still displaying the last heart rate detected which is incorrect. Even if that heart rate was from 10 minutes ago.The polar unit also has the ability to be used through third party apps to detect your heart rate variability and such. You can even download apps so you can actually see the electrical signal from your heart if you really wanted to though I have no way to confirm how accurate that is. It’s just the fact that Polar opens this up for use like that unlike the garmin is a huge win.Overall I wouldn’t bother with the Garmin unit. If you are unsure which to buy, just guy the polar H10. Much better unit over all in every way.The strap.I’m a big boy at 275 pounds so I bought the larger strap to go with the unit. The garmin strap was trash. Good gear
I’ve purchased this one to get a better hr connecting it with my Vivoactive 5, I think it gives me a better or more accurate data but sometimes I believe it’s not connected with my garmin watch because when I go to accessories it says searching and then connected everytime I do that, even though it said connected the first time, so it’s like when I go out of that setting it’s going off but in case I’m just crazy, it’s actually more accurate than my watch based on YouTube videos because I’ve just used it 2 times so I’m getting there.. it’s pretty comfy, easy to wear, easy to unwear and easy to washUpdate: it.works really well, I was really dumb, when you go to activities the monitor connects automatically to the watch lol

I got it to accurately monitor my heart rate during workouts where I have to take off my watch (mainly when boxing) it is very accurate and instantly connects to my garmin watch. Comfortable to wear even when I’m soaking in my sweat, I forget it’s there. It measures my HR instantly and accurately during any workout. The only thing I noticed is that it tends to stop measuring for a few seconds sometimes and I don’t know the reason for this. Other than that, it’s a great monitor from a great brand

I do powerlifting and cycling and have never been able to get good metrics on the lifting side of it around how my heart is responding or how hard I’m actually pushing on top sets. This allows me to keep the watch protected and off my wrist but still have great insights into my sessions. No issues of any kind and the info shows up in Garmin connect in really easy to digest ways.
